For 2021, COVID-19 situation is still very fluid, as such we have decided to keep SPAF MUSIC 2021 as ONLINE EDITION, but we will definitely try our best to provide a 'live' settings when the situation allows.
All performance guidelines remain the same as listed within the syllabus booklet further below this page, except that the performance will be recorded and submitted online.

Specifically for ONLINE Entry Recording - Please Read Carefully
Recording your performance - Some basic requirements to note:
- Quiet Space / Environment with ample lighting.
- A simple video recorder - most recent mobile phones should be adequate.
- The height of the Camera/Phone should be about in line with the eye level of the performer.
- The Full height of the performer should be seen.
- The video recording should be taken from a suitable angle, from the usual Adjudicator or Audience view point. Some popular examples:
- Piano & Keyboard Instruments: You should film your performance from the side so that the keys, your face and both hands (and most if not all of the notes on the keyboard) are visible.
- Violin and Viola: You should film your performance from the right-hand side to give a clear view of your bowing arm, and with your face, hands and all of your instrument in shot. Position your music stand so that the view is not obscured.
- Video Recording should be done in ONE complete continuous take.
- Video Submission must be submitted by 1 JUNE 2021, in MP4 or MOV video format sent using www.wetransfer.com OR a Youtube video link within the ONLINE entry form or at a later date to be emailed to This email address is being protected from spambots. - COPY of SCORE – a scanned copy of the SCORE (in PDF) to be whatsapp to 96513538. Common Mobile App such as CamScanner (iOS & Android) can be used to easily create the SCORE in PDF. Please rename PDF to the Name of Participant (performer).

Festival Adjudicators
Nicholas Keyworth
Nicholas Keyworth has travelled to over 50 countries and is constantly inspired by their individual history, architecture, culture, people, wildlife, and artistic diversity.
The former Chief Examiner for Music at Trinity College London, Nicholas was at the forefront of international arts assessment in classical, jazz and popular music. He appeared on a series exploring exam music repertoire for BBC Radio 3 as well travelling internationally giving talks and presentations relating to music assessments. In 2012 he developed and launched the successful Trinity Rock & Pop exams at Trinity in collaboration with Faber Music and Peters Edition.
As a teacher he has worked as Director of Music in various schools and as an educational advisor on national music curriculums, classroom planning and mentoring teachers and students. [Full Biog]
Low Shao Suan & Low Shao Ying
Twin sisters, LOW Shao Suan and LOW Shao Ying, are award-winning classically trained pianists and self-taught composers from Singapore. They have won prizes at international piano competitions and they have performed as soloists numerous times with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra under the batons of Maestros Choo Hoey, Lim Yau, Shui Lan, Lü Jia, Darrell Ang and Joshua Tan. As chamber musicians, the sisters have collaborated with world-renowned musicians such as tubist Øystein Baadsvik, trombonist Jörgen can Rijen, cellists Alexander Ivashkin and Amit Peled, violinist Jin Li and members of the Boston Brass.
As songwriters, a handful of the sisters’ songs have been sung by Asian pop singers such as Jolin Tsai, Vivian Hsu, Suzanne Hsiao and mink. As composers, their original compositions have won international awards and are being performed worldwide. Shao Suan and Shao Ying’s joint debut album, “Romance in the City”, featuring their original compositions, received the “2014 Artistic Performance Album of the Year” award at the “10th Hi-fi Album Awards 2014” in Guangzhou, China. The sisters released their second album, “Music Diaries”, featuring their original chamber music works, in 2016. Their third album, “Summer Vacation”, was released in May 2020, and this album was ranked no. 1 on iTunes’ Top 100 Classical Albums Chart, and no. 3 on iTunes’ Top Music Albums Chart in Singapore. Their music has been aired on American and Canadian radio stations as well as on local classical radio station, Symphony 92.4FM.
Shao Suan and Shao Ying are published composers with world-renowned Viennese music publisher, Universal Edition. They are also members of the Composers and Authors Society of Singapore (COMPASS), as well as co-founders of local chamber ensemble, Ensemble de la Belle Musique (www.ebmusique.com).
