Soloists' Biogs

 

Katherine Bicknell (Flute)

 Katherine is an international flautist of exceptional tone and ‘striking musical ability’ (musicweb). Katherine has been an extra player with the LPO since 2003 performing as guest principal on tours to Amsterdam, Budapest, the US and China, and at the last 3 Glyndebourne festivals. She has been involved extensively in the orchestra’s education projects. Katherine is a highly sort after teacher and has held a position at the Royal College of Music Junior Department since 2006.

 

Daniel Bates (Oboe)

Daniel Bates is a regular guest principal oboe with the LPO. He is principal oboe with the Northern Sinfonia and holds principal positions with the Irish Chamber Orchestra and the City of London Sinfonia. Born in London, Daniel studied at the Royal Academy of Music, Pembroke College, Cambridge and LAMDA drama school. He was the youngest ever winner of the Royal Overseas League Competition. He has performed concertos with the London Symphony Orchestra, the London Mozart Players and the English Chamber Orchestra and has given recitals at the Wigmore Hall and the Purcell Room.

 

Katie Lockhart (Clarinet)

Katie Lockhart has been playing with the LPO since 2007 having been a member of its young player development programme, Foyle Future Firsts. She has appeared with the LPO in London and on tour and is also a regular workshop musician on its education programme. Katie also performs with her wind trio for Live Music Now! She teaches clarinet in two London schools.

 

Laura Vincent (Bassoon)

Bassoonist Laura Vincent has just completed a year as a member of the London Philharmonic Orchestra's Foyle Future Firsts and she has subsequently been added to their pool of extra musicians. She has also performed with orchestras including the Philharmonia Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the Philadelphia Orchestra. Laura has worked extensively in music education as a teaching artist for the New York Philharmonic, Carnegie Hall and the Little Orchestra Society and this past year has enjoyed working with the London Philharmonic Orchestra's education programme. 

 

Katie Pryce (Horn)

As well as her work with the LPO, Katie Pryce has been freelance since returning from her job as Principal horn of the Kwa Zulu Natal Orchestra in 2005. In this time she has worked with the London Symphony Orchestra, London Sinfonietta and Royal Philharmonic and also has a busy chamber music career.  Katie has a passion for music education and has been heavily involved with projects in and around London with the Sinfonietta and with her chamber group, the Camarilla ensemble. She has travelled to India on many occasions bringing her own music workshops to schools in the Slum areas.

 

Helen Leek (Piano)

Helen has a long connection with the LPO, and has regular duo partnerships with some of the orchestra's members. This summer she will be performing with two of them in concerts in Sussex and on Cunard's Queen Victoria in the Channel Islands. This year Helen has been teaching chamber music at the Royal College of Music Junior Department, and in October she will be joining the staff at the University of Warwick.
